Kate Woessner Odell at StepAhead College Advising provides hourly and full-service college advising to help students in grades 9 though 12 and their families to successfully navigate the complicated and ever-changing college admissions process.

Kate takes students through four steps as they prepare for and apply to college.

REFLECT

  • Interest & Skills Assessments: By using a series of interest and skill asessments, Kate can help students to identify the type of college and learning environment that best suits them, as well as potential majors and/or career paths.

  • Academic & Activity Advising: Throughout high school, Kate can advise students on course selection and activity choices to best prepare them for college.

EXPLORE

  • Research College Options: Kate researches college options that offer academic, social, geographic and financial fit for the student.

  • College Visits: Kate offers students tips on how to effectively conduct college visits.

  • College List: At the end of this phase, students will have a balanced list of colleges that fit their interests and needs.

APPLY

  • Standardized Tests: Kate provides guidance regarding testing options and timelines

  • College Essay: Kate works with the student to help them brainstorm and write effective college essays

  • Application Roadmap: Kate provides a complete roadmap of application requirements and timelines and helps student to stay on track throughout the application process.

DECIDE

  • Financial Aid/Acceptance Comparisons: Kate can help students and their families to review and compare financial aid letters and college acceptances in order to make an informed decision regarding which college to attend.

By providing education and support at every step in the process, Kate aims to reduce the college-related stress for high school students and their families.
